Star Wars: Skeleton Crew features giant Mama Crab created with stop-motion animation
In "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew," the giant Mama Crab creature was created using stop-motion animation instead of CGI. Standing 30 feet tall, it continues the practical effects tradition of the original Star Wars trilogy. The puppet, named "Tet’niss," is the heaviest stop-motion puppet ever made at Tippett Studio, weighing 15 pounds and featuring 70 joints. The design balances menace with a friendly appearance for younger viewers. The creature includes hidden Easter eggs, like miniature droids and parts of the Millennium Falcon. It showcases techniques from the original trilogy, maintaining the franchise's legacy of practical effects. "Skeleton Crew" is now available on Disney+.
