State basketball semifinals feature WPIAL teams competing
The state basketball semifinals are happening this weekend, featuring several key matchups for both boys and girls teams. The games will determine who advances to the PIAA finals in Hershey. In boys Class 3A, South Allegheny will play Aliquippa in a highly anticipated rematch. They faced each other in the WPIAL championship just weeks ago, where South Allegheny won 37-35. Senior Cam Epps and junior Drew Cook have been standout players for South Allegheny, while Aliquippa's junior Josh Pratt has also shown impressive scoring ability throughout the playoffs. Peters Township will meet South Fayette in the girls 5A semifinals, another rematch from the recent WPIAL championships. The last game ended with Peters Township winning 40-36, led by senior Natalie Wetzel. Both teams aim to secure a spot in the championship game. In boys Class 6A, Upper St. Clair will take on Roman Catholic. This is the Panthers' second trip to the semifinals.
