State government to address 728 questions in assembly
The state government will hold a three-day budget session starting Monday. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will present the state budget on March 26, the final day of the session. During the session, the government plans to answer 728 questions, which includes 180 starred questions. The assembly will also discuss the governor's address during the first two days. The government intends to introduce and pass 10 bills, including amendments to the Private Universities Act and the Employment Exchanges (Compulsory Notification of Vacancies) Act. These amendments aim to establish new requirements for private universities and increase penalties for companies that do not post job vacancies in Goa. Opposition leader Yuri Alemao criticized the government for limiting the session to three days, claiming it shows a fear of facing opposition members in debate. He called this decision a threat to democracy and said it silences activists. The opposition will need to wait for the next session to address issues like the jobs scam and other pressing matters. In a previous winter session, the government responded to 236 questions, highlighting the pattern of limited interaction in the assembly. The chief minister had previously assured that he would organize a longer budget session to address various issues.
