Staten Island's traffic increased under congestion pricing
Staten Island has experienced an increase in traffic since congestion pricing began on January 5, 2025. In January, 5,110 more vehicles crossed the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge compared to January 2024, as some drivers avoided the toll. In February, however, traffic decreased by 2,625 vehicles compared to the previous year. Overall, there were 2,485 more vehicles on the bridge in the first two months of 2025 than in 2024, indicating ongoing traffic concerns. While some commuters report faster travel times, others have not noticed any change. The long-term effects of congestion pricing remain uncertain, with comparisons drawn to London’s experience with similar measures.
