Steroid misuse may cause glaucoma, warn AIIMS doctors
Doctors at AIIMS warn that frequent use of steroid-based treatments, such as inhalers, nasal sprays, and skin creams, can increase the risk of glaucoma, a condition that can lead to vision loss. Regular eye check-ups are crucial for early detection. Glaucoma often has no symptoms until significant damage occurs. AIIMS experts recommend that individuals over 40 have eye exams every 1-2 years, even if they feel their vision is fine. Misuse of steroid eye drops, especially in children, is also a concern. AIIMS is expanding its vision centers with AI-based glaucoma detection tests. Experts stress the importance of awareness and proper medication use to manage the condition effectively.
