Storm surge alert issued for Luzon and Visayas as Super Typhoon Pepito approaches
A storm surge alert has been issued for parts of Luzon and Visayas as Super Typhoon Pepito approaches landfall. The Philippine weather agency warns of surges between 1.0 and over 3.0 meters due to strong winds. Pepito, now classified as a super typhoon, has maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 230 kph. It is currently located 215 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar, moving west-northwest at 25 kph. The typhoon is expected to make landfall near Catanduanes on Saturday evening or early Sunday. Areas at risk for the highest storm surges include Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes.
