Storm surge warnings issued as Typhoon Pepito approaches Philippines
Storm surge warnings are in effect for parts of Southern Luzon, Central Luzon, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas as Typhoon Pepito approaches. The Philippine weather agency warns of moderate to high flooding risks in low-lying coastal areas. Typhoon Pepito intensified on Friday, with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 160 kph. It is moving westward at 30 kph and is expected to reach Catanduanes by Saturday evening or early Sunday. Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 has been raised in parts of Northern and Eastern Samar. Residents are advised to avoid coastal areas and cancel maritime activities.
