Structural failure causes Mohali building collapse, one dead and three injured
A building under construction in Mohali collapsed on January 12, killing one labourer and injuring three others. Preliminary inspections suggest the collapse was due to inadequate load-bearing capacity of the scaffolding. The contractor has been arrested for culpable homicide. Rescue teams extracted four labourers from the debris, with one pronounced dead at the hospital. This incident marks the second building collapse in Mohali within a month, following a previous collapse in Sohana. The Mohali administration is processing compensation for the deceased labourer. However, victims from the Sohana collapse, who were from other states, are not eligible for compensation from the Punjab government due to policy restrictions.
