Students confirm Groundhog Chuck's spring prediction accuracy
Students from Susan E. Wagner High School confirm that Groundhog Chuck's prediction for an early spring is right. They used their weather data and analysis to check if Chuck's forecast was accurate. On March 20, the Staten Island Zoo, Citizens Bank, and District Attorney Michael McMahon gathered for the announcement. The event celebrated the arrival of spring and featured the high school students, their teacher Robert Fendrick, and local community members. The students analyzed temperature data from their weather station. They looked at the days since Chuck made his prediction on February 2. They found that only 12 of those days had temperatures below 40 degrees. This means most days reached at least 40 degrees or higher. Ken Mitchell, the Executive Director of the Zoo, praised Chuck, saying he is “Mr. March.” District Attorney McMahon also voiced his support, stating that Chuck’s prediction has been proven right on the first day of spring.
