Students protest for safety after intern injured in Chennai

Students at ESIC Medical College in Chennai are protesting for safety on campus after a clash involving a medical intern. The incident happened two days ago when the intern, Alfred, was injured during an argument with housekeeping and security staff. The fight started when a food delivery agent was stopped from entering the campus late at night. Alfred had ordered food and wanted to know why the staff prevented the delivery. The argument escalated into a physical altercation, where Balajeevagan, a member of the housekeeping staff, was seen beating Alfred. Police arrested Balajeevagan, who has been placed in judicial custody. The hospital confirmed that Alfred suffered injuries and is receiving treatment. The Dean of the hospital stated that the staff involved have been terminated and an internal investigation is underway. The college has strict rules against allowing outsiders on campus after 10:30 pm for security reasons. The management also shared termination letters from the agencies that employed the staff involved in the incident. Students are demanding more measures to ensure their safety.
