Study confirms safety and effectiveness of abortion pills before six weeks of pregnancy
A new study in The New England Journal of Medicine shows that abortion pills are safe and effective when taken before six weeks of pregnancy. This challenges the common practice of waiting for an ultrasound confirmation before administering the medication. The research involved over 1,500 women from 26 clinics in nine countries. Results indicated that more than 95 percent of women in both early and delayed groups had successful abortions, with fewer complications in the early group. Participants who took the pills early reported less pain and bleeding. The study also found that early medication abortions remained safe even in cases of undiagnosed ectopic pregnancies. Researchers are now looking into new drug combinations for treating ectopic pregnancies.
