Study reveals increased risk of bipolar disorder in women during perimenopause
A new study has found that women in perimenopause are more than twice as likely to develop bipolar disorder for the first time. This research is the first to explore the link between perimenopause and severe psychiatric conditions. The study analyzed data from 128,294 women in the UK, revealing a 112% increase in new bipolar disorder cases and a 30% rise in major depressive conditions during perimenopause compared to earlier reproductive years. Researchers aim to further investigate the reasons behind these mental health changes and identify effective treatment options for affected women. The findings highlight a previously overlooked aspect of women's mental health during this transition.
