Study: Two-thirds oppose nationalizing UK trains
A recent study shows that over two-thirds of rail passengers oppose nationalizing trains. Instead, many believe increased competition could lower ticket prices. About 60% of respondents support more operators on routes to improve services and customer experience. The poll of 2,000 train users found that 51% prefer a mix of nationalized and Open Access services. Nearly 70% want the option to choose their train operator, while 67% think more choices would benefit passengers on key routes. The research highlights concerns about high ticket prices, infrequent services, and reliability. It also notes that 82% of participants believe the UK rail network needs significant investment. The Office of Rail and Road will decide on Open Access applications in May 2024.
