A sub-inspector from the Thamarassery police station has been suspended. This follows an inquiry into his failure to act on a domestic violence complaint. K.K. Noushad, also the Public Relations Officer at the station, faced suspension on March 22 after an order from District Police Chief K.E. Baiju. The victim, 26-year-old Shibila Parakkandy, was killed by her husband, Yasir, on March 18. Yasir is believed to have a drug addiction. Shibila's parents were injured in the attack as well. Reports say Shibila had filed a domestic violence complaint with the police on February 28 and was waiting for action. The inquiry revealed that the officer did not follow proper procedures, leading to delays. It is believed that prompt police action might have prevented the murder. A relative of Shibila stated that the sub-inspector ignored repeated requests for a better investigation into her complaints. In addition to the internal police action, the Kerala State Human Rights Commission is also looking into the case. They have asked for a preliminary report from District Police Chief Baiju within 15 days. The case will be reviewed in a future session of the Commission in Kozhikode.
