Summit Avenue in Muskegon Heights to close next week
Next week, Summit Avenue in Muskegon Heights will close entirely to traffic. This closure is due to the installation of a new water main. The work is set to begin on Monday, March 24, and is expected to finish by March 28. However, the road will remain gravel until further paving is completed. During the closure, drivers will be redirected to alternative routes via 6th Street, Broadway, and Peck. While through traffic is restricted, local residents will still have access. It’s important to note that parking on the street is not allowed in the construction area. Additionally, residents on Jefferson Street between Summit and Broadway will experience a water outage on Wednesday, March 26. This is necessary for testing and connecting the new water main to the existing system. Residents can expect a disruption lasting four to six hours. During this time, they may have air or discoloration in their water lines. It is advised to flush taps until the water runs clear. Other ongoing work in the area includes the complete reconstruction of Broadway Avenue. This improvement project began last fall and will take place in phases until 2026.
