Suni Williams received 3D-printed dog models in space

Suni Williams, an astronaut from Needham, has returned to Earth after spending nine months in space. She arrived safely aboard a SpaceX capsule earlier this week. While in space, Williams missed her dogs, Rotor and Gunner. However, she received a unique gift from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI). In December, they surprised her with 3D-printed models of her pets. The models were created from photos of Rotor and Gunner. WHOI painted the mini dogs and sent them to the International Space Station just in time for Christmas. The models helped provide companionship during her lengthy stay in space. Williams and her fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore initially expected to be in space for just a week after launching on June 5 aboard Boeing’s new Starliner crew capsule.
