Sunita Williams enjoys Indian street food in space
NASA astronaut Sunita Williams is preparing to return to Earth after spending nearly nine months in space. She is a known fan of Indian food, especially snacks like pani puri and samosa. Williams is scheduled to land on March 19. In a book titled "SPACE: The Indian Story" by Dinesh C. Sharma, it was highlighted that she enjoys these popular street foods even while in space. During a past interview, she also mentioned her fondness for Gujarati cuisine, which she credits to her family's cooking background. Samosas are crispy snacks filled with spiced potatoes, while pani puri consists of hollow, crispy puris filled with a flavored water mixture. Some reports suggest that Williams managed to take samosas into space, though they require special storage to stay fresh. In addition to her favorite snacks, Williams consumes a variety of other foods in space, including breakfast cereals and packaged meals. Astronauts eat lightweight and dehydrated foods to keep their diets healthy and nutritious while in orbit.
