Supermarket tags Easter eggs to prevent theft
Shoppers are reacting with frustration after a supermarket started putting security tags on Easter eggs priced at £4.49. QD Stores in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, implemented this measure to prevent theft, particularly of popular chocolate items like Cadbury and Nestle Easter eggs. The decision to tag these relatively inexpensive items surprised many customers. One shopper named Jake Game found it amusing and noted, “I just thought it was absolutely hilarious. They’ve gone to the extent of security tagging the Easter eggs.” This move comes amid growing concerns about shoplifting, particularly with chocolate products. In another incident, a shopper found a £19 bag of Mini Eggs locked up in Liverpool. Supermarkets, including Tesco, are also taking measures like installing anti-shoplifting strips, although some customers question their effectiveness. Critics on social media have pointed out that such security measures might not actually deter thieves. However, some supporters argue that these tactics can slow down theft and give security more time to respond. QD Stores has not yet commented on the situation.
