Support worker charged with defrauding victim in York
A community support worker in York Region has been charged with defrauding a vulnerable individual of over $10,000. This follows a report made to York police by a family member of the victim. The complaint was filed on November 24, 2023. The family member claimed that more than $10,000 had been taken from the victim's account between 2021 and 2023. The victim, who needs assistance with daily living, could not have made these withdrawals on their own. After an investigation, police identified Michelle Mason, 44, from Newmarket, as the suspect. She was employed to help the victim with daily tasks and financial matters. Mason has been charged with fraud over $5,000. Authorities have released her image, believing there may be additional victims. She has worked for several organizations that support vulnerable community members.
