Supreme Court issues contempt notice to Delhi's principal secretary
The Supreme Court of India issued a contempt notice to the principal secretary of Delhi's home department for failing to decide on Sukhdev Singh's remission request in the 2002 Nitish Katara murder case. Singh is currently serving a 20-year sentence. The court criticized the Delhi government for not honoring its commitment made on March 3 to decide within two weeks. The justices noted that the Sentence Review Board was scheduled to meet on March 17 but had not yet addressed the case. The court ordered the principal secretary to appear via video conference on March 28 to explain the delay. The justices expressed frustration over the lack of communication regarding an extension request.
