Supreme Court of India unveils new statue of Lady Justice without blindfold
The Supreme Court of India has unveiled a new statue of Lady Justice in its library, featuring her without a blindfold and holding the Constitution instead of a sword. This design aims to reflect a modern, Indian representation of justice. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud described the statue as a symbol of impartiality and constitutional values. The statue's features, including a saree, are intended to move away from colonial imagery associated with Lady Justice. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut criticized the statue, calling it "BJP-RSS propaganda" and questioning the removal of the blindfold. His comments have sparked debate about the symbolism and intent behind the new design.
