Surgeon reports family killed in Gaza airstrike
Dr. Mahmoud Abumarzouq, an Irish-based orthopedic surgeon, is mourning the loss of four family members in a recent bombing in Gaza. He learned on Tuesday that his sister, Seham, was injured and her four children were killed in the attack. Dr. Abumarzouq's family had already suffered losses. Last year, he lost his brother and his brother-in-law to missile strikes. Now, Seham is in intensive care, and her two teenage sons, Mohamed and Refat, along with her daughters Dinna and Noor, have died. His two-day-old grandniece is also fighting for her life in a hospital. The airstrikes on Monday night killed over 400 Palestinians and ended a temporary ceasefire. Dr. Abumarzouq described the tragic news as shattering. He expressed deep sorrow for his sister and her family, noting that ten of her in-laws also died in the attacks. He shared his feelings of helplessness and grief, saying, "My heart has been completely shattered." Dr. Abumarzouq called for world leaders to take action and stop the violence, stating that the situation is inhumane. Despite his family's safety in Ireland, he feels a deep connection to his roots in Gaza and is heartbroken over the recent losses.
