Suspect arrested for shooting at off-duty Irvine officer

A man was arrested in Irvine, California, on Tuesday morning after allegedly shooting at an off-duty police officer. The officer was driving home from work when he noticed a car being driven erratically around 3 a.m. The officer began to follow the suspect and alerted police. While he was on the phone, he heard a popping sound and quickly backed away. Police later found a shell casing on the street. Using license plate recognition technology, police were able to locate the suspect at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula. Riverside County sheriff's deputies detained the driver and a female passenger before Irvine police took them into custody. The driver faces charges for shooting at an occupied vehicle and for assault with a deadly weapon. The female passenger was also arrested, but more details about her charges have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
