Suspect bought knife online before Idaho stabbings
Prosecutors have revealed new evidence in the case against Bryan Kohberger, the man accused of murdering four University of Idaho students in 2022. They say he bought a knife and knife sheath online prior to the stabbings. Court documents indicate that Kohberger's Amazon shopping history will be used as evidence in his trial. Prosecutors also want to present testimony from a housemate who reported seeing a man with bushy eyebrows wearing a ski mask in the victims' home during the early hours of November 13, 2022. A photo of Kohberger, taken shortly after the stabbings, will be shown to the jury. They will need to decide if he matches the description provided by the witness. Kohberger faces four murder charges for the deaths of Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen, and Kaylee Goncalves at their rental home in Moscow, Idaho. He has pleaded not guilty. His trial is set to start on August 11 and could last more than three months. If convicted, prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty. A knife sheath found near one victim contained DNA that has been linked to Kohberger. A defense attorney has challenged the DNA evidence, but a judge denied that request. Recent court filings show that the state secured a search warrant for Kohberger's Amazon records concerning knives. This includes information about what he bought and what he added or removed from his cart. Prosecutors argue that the purchase of a Ka-Bar knife before the stabbings suggests that the sheath found at the crime scene belongs to Kohberger. The case has produced thousands of pages of legal documents as both sides prepare for the trial.
