Suspect pleads not guilty to deputy's murder in Victorville
A man accused of driving a stolen car has pled not guilty to second-degree murder. This relates to the death of a sheriff's deputy during a high-speed chase in Victorville. Ryan Dwayne Turner Jr. is 22 and from San Bernardino. He entered his plea in court on Thursday. Turner is being held without bail. Deputy Hector Cuevas Jr., who was 36 years old, died in the crash on Monday. Friends and family remembered Cuevas as a kind and caring person. Sonia Bracey, a friend of the family, shared her memories of him outside the courthouse. "He was just that warm, kind, caring person that had nothing to say negative about anybody," she said. A vigil honoring Cuevas was held on Wednesday night. District Attorney Jason Anderson said that Turner has a history of fleeing from police. He has been arrested before for stealing cars and has previously been involved in crashes with officers. Turner's next court date is set for April 8 at the Victorville Courthouse.
