Sustainable fashion innovations emerged despite limited focus
During the autumn/winter 2025 fashion month, sustainability was not a major focus, but some designers showcased eco-friendly innovations. Gabriela Hearst introduced faux fur made from silk, while Stella McCartney and Ganni presented eco-conscious sequins made from cellulose and seaweed. Tolu Coker and ELV Denim opted for presentations instead of traditional shows, highlighting their creative processes and the labor involved in upcycling. Coker's makeshift studio and ELV's denim sorting process provided insights into sustainable fashion practices. Collina Strada featured upcycled wedding dresses, and Roksanda used deadstock materials for her designs, emphasizing the importance of repurposing discarded items. These moments reflect a shift towards more sustainable practices, even as the term "sustainability" was less prominent this season.
