Suvendu Adhikari criticizes Mamata government over Ram Navami
West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government for its handling of Ram Navami celebrations. He claims that Hindus in the state will resist any efforts to stop these festivities. This statement comes as tensions rise in the region, following allegations of violence during Holi. Adhikari stated that around one crore Hindus plan to participate in over 20,000 processions for Ram Navami on April 6. He warned that attempts to halt the celebrations would be met with strong resistance. He also accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of favoring a particular community and said her time in power is running out. In his comments, Adhikari linked recent violence against Dalits during Holi to the government's inaction. He argued that internet services were cut to hide the violence and criticized the assembly speaker for not allowing discussion on the issue. He mentioned that certain terms, including "Hindus" and "Hindutva," were deemed inappropriate for assembly debate, which further frustrated BJP leaders. Adhikari previously made controversial remarks about Muslim MLAs in the TMC, suggesting they would be "thrown out" if the BJP came to power. Banerjee responded by insisting that the BJP's views on Hinduism are not aligned with traditional beliefs and emphasized the importance of protecting minority rights in a secular nation. As the BJP and TMC continue to clash, especially around festival times, tensions are expected to rise further with elections approaching next year.
