Swimmer drowns in Ullswater, Lake District
A man in his 20s died while swimming in Ullswater, a lake in the Lake District. Police divers recovered his body after he experienced difficulty and did not resurface on Friday morning. His friends alerted emergency services when they lost sight of him. A major search operation involved mountain rescue teams, the coastguard, the fire service, and the Great North Air Ambulance Service. The search lasted over three hours before divers found the man’s body around 14:25 GMT. Cumbria Police stated they are still investigating the incident, but they do not consider it suspicious. A spokesperson from Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team mentioned they started their search around 09:40 GMT using a boat to scan the lake. After hours of searching without success, the rescue efforts were scaled back. The team continued to monitor the area and conducted a sonar search, which led to the discovery of the body. The rescue team expressed condolences to the man's friends and family.
