Southwestern University PHINMA (SWU) held a successful IT Career Summit 2025 in Cebu City. The event took place at the City Wing Atrium, SM Seaside City Cebu, and attracted over 470 students along with tech professionals and industry experts. The theme was “From Data to Decisions: How AI Analyzes Data to Drive Smart Choices.” The summit focused on the important role of artificial intelligence (AI) in different fields. Its goal was to inspire and educate students while connecting them with leaders in information technology, data science, and software development. Prominent speakers included Joshua de Guzman, a Google Developer Expert, and Jerel Velarde, who leads AI Pilipinas. Both discussed how AI can enhance decision-making and development. De Guzman remarked that AI is a valuable tool for developers to tackle real-world problems. Mario Domingo from UBX Corporation highlighted that the demand for IT professionals is rising. He noted that 78 million new job opportunities are expected by 2030, emphasizing the need for students to enhance their skills. Desiree Idio Cendana, Dean of the College of Information Technology, echoed this sentiment. The summit featured a Prototyping Workshop & Competition, allowing students to create innovative tech solutions. Teams that excelled received scholarship vouchers and cash prizes, giving them a boost for their academic paths. Additionally, the event showcased IT projects created by students, reflecting the practical skills gained from SWU PHINMA’s curriculum. The summit highlighted the university's commitment to developing future tech leaders through hands-on learning and industry partnerships. Enrollment for the Information Technology program for the 2025-2026 school year is now open. Interested students can visit the Enrollment Hub at the SWU Villa, which is open from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Saturday.
