Syosset girls basketball wins first Long Island title

The Syosset girls basketball team is having an exciting season. With a record of 21 wins and 3 losses, they recently won their first AAA Long Island title by defeating Brentwood 54-46. This victory has secured their place in the New York State final four for the first time ever. The team's success is due, in part, to the contribution of three middle school players who are part of the scout team. Head coach Mike Ferreira praised their efforts, saying they help elevate the performance of the older players. The team's senior leaders, like Kate Nelmes, take pride in helping these younger players feel important. One highlight of the team is the bond between sisters Julia and Samantha Schneider. Julia, a seventh-grade guard, is learning a lot by playing alongside Samantha, an 11th-grader who played a key role in the championship game. Both are excited about the upcoming game against Liverpool and the opportunity to play together. The team's journey has not been easy. Last season, they celebrated a Nassau County title but lost in the Long Island championship. This year, the team has a stronger focus and determination to succeed. Nelmes noted that they have been working hard every day, both in practice and off the court. Now, the Syosset team is looking forward to their next challenge. They have been practicing diligently as they prepare for Liverpool. The players are confident and excited to show their skills, and they are focused on achieving their goal.
