Firefighters in Syracuse battled a house fire on the North Side on Saturday, March 22, 2025. The fire started in the kitchen due to cooking and was extinguished in less than ten minutes. Emergency crews were called to 209 Belle Ave. at 3:38 p.m. Firefighters from Station 8 arrived quickly, just three minutes after the initial call. They noticed smoke coming from several windows of the home. Two people were inside at the time but managed to escape safely before firefighters arrived. Upon entering the house, crews identified the fire in the kitchen, which was beginning to spread to the attic. First Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Downes reported that firefighters were exhausted after responding to another fire earlier in the day at the former Maria Regina College building. Fortunately, there were no injuries to residents or firefighters. The house sustained damage from the fire, smoke, and water. The three people affected are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
