Syria begins new chapter after Bashar al-Assad's 24-year rule ends
Syria is beginning to reshape its future following the end of Bashar al-Assad's 24-year rule. The leader of the largest insurgent group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, has called for fighters to return to their bases and cease hostilities as a transitional government is formed. Former Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali, who was captured by rebels, is set to oversee state institutions during this period. He has expressed readiness to cooperate with the rebels and emphasized the need for free elections. In the wake of Assad's downfall, Israeli troops have moved into the Golan Heights, claiming the situation has changed. The Arab League condemned this action, stating it seeks to occupy more Syrian territory.
