Syria updates school curriculum, removes Assad references and introduces new flag
Syria's new government has announced significant changes to the school curriculum, removing all references to former president Bashar al-Assad. The education ministry stated that the curriculum will now reflect a more Islamic perspective, with phrases and content altered accordingly. The changes include replacing the Assad regime's flag with the Syrian Revolution flag in textbooks. Additionally, poems about women and love have been removed, and the national anthem associated with Assad has been omitted. Education Minister al-Qadir defended the revisions, stating they aim to correct misinterpretations of the Quran. He noted that the current curriculum will remain in place until specialized committees review the changes.
