Syrian Americans in Chicago celebrate end of Assad regime
Syrian Americans in Chicago celebrated the fall of the Assad regime on Sunday. Several hundred people gathered at Congress Plaza Garden, singing, dancing, and waving three-star Syrian flags, which symbolize the revolution against Assad's government. Bashar Assad fled to Russia after rebels took control of Damascus, ending a nearly 14-year civil war. Many attendees expressed joy and hope for Syria's future, reflecting on the fear and oppression experienced under Assad's rule. Participants carried signs celebrating freedom and released balloons into the air. Some shared traditional Syrian foods, while small fireworks were set off, marking the occasion.
