Syrian government collapses as rebels seize control of Damascus
The Syrian government collapsed on Sunday as rebels swiftly took control of Damascus, marking the end of the Assad family's 50-year rule. President Bashar Assad reportedly fled the country, prompting celebrations among citizens. The opposition group, Operations Room to Conquer Damascus, announced the overthrow of Assad and the release of prisoners. The rapid advance of rebel forces surprised many, as the Syrian army abandoned key cities with little resistance. Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi Jalali stated the government is ready to transition power to a new administration. He remained in Damascus, despite reports of Assad's departure, and called for citizens to respect public property.
