Syrian rebels appoint Mohammed al-Bashir as head of transitional government
Syrian rebels have appointed Mohammed al-Bashir as the head of a transitional government following their capture of Damascus on December 8, 2024. This government will operate until March 1, 2025. Al-Bashir previously led the rebels' Salvation Government in northwest Syria and served as its Development Minister. His new role was confirmed by state media. The Salvation Government was established in 2017 to provide services in rebel-held areas. It has recently expanded its assistance to Aleppo, which was the first major city to fall to the rebels.
