The Indian government has approved the hiring of SYSTRA MVA Consulting to prepare mobility plans for metro rail projects in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. This decision follows the submission of detailed project reports in December 2024. The Andhra Pradesh government had approved the construction plans for the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail, which will cover 46.23 kilometers at a cost of ₹11,498 crore, and the Vijayawada Metro Rail, spanning 38.40 kilometers at a cost of ₹11,009 crore. These plans were sent to the central government for clearance. The government requested an update to the previous Comprehensive Mobility Plans, which were created in 2019. To select a new consultant, the Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (APMRCL) invited tenders. SYSTRA MVA Consulting was selected from several bidders, including RITES Limited and Assystem. On March 17, the central government approved SYSTRA's appointment. The Andhra Pradesh government has now directed APMRCL to finalize the agreement with SYSTRA and complete the work within three months. The official letter of award was issued to SYSTRA MVA Consulting on March 19.
