Taaruk Raina emphasizes heartfelt connection in singing

In an interview with Zoom, Taaruk Raina, the lead actor of the series "The Waking of a Nation," discussed his experience learning to sing songs by the poet Sant Kabir for the show. This series, available on SonyLIV, focuses on the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre and its effects. Taaruk plays Kantilal Sahni, a lawyer involved with the Hunter Commission. This role marks his first leading performance in a series, giving him a chance to showcase his singing. He expressed his excitement about the opportunity, stating that it was a significant change from his usual work. Director Ram Madhvani praised Taaruk's dedication to understanding the songs' meaning and emotion. Taaruk learned from folk singer Shruti Vishwanathan and music director Sameer Uddin, who created the haunting melodies. Taaruk emphasized that singing these songs required more than just technique; it involved connecting deeply with their essence. He took time to grasp the emotions and purpose behind the lyrics, which made the experience meaningful for him. He shared that he has grown fond of the material and has participated in Kabir singing shows and read relevant literature.
