Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain was laid to rest in San Francisco on Thursday. He passed away at 73 due to complications from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a lung disease, after a six-decade career in music. Hussain was known for his innovative work with the tabla, expanding its reach into jazz and Western classical music. He won four Grammy Awards, including three this year. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and siblings. Hussain was the son of legendary tabla player Alla Rakha.
