Taiwan closes schools and offices as Typhoon Krathon approaches

Taiwan closed offices, schools, and financial markets on Wednesday as Typhoon Krathon approached. The storm is expected to bring heavy rain and storm surges, particularly affecting the western coast, including Kaohsiung and Tainan. Authorities advised residents to stay indoors and avoid coastal areas. Precautions are heightened due to memories of past typhoons, with over 700 sandbags distributed in Kaohsiung. The typhoon has weakened but still poses risks. Taiwan's defense ministry has placed over 38,000 troops on standby, and 35 injuries have been reported, mainly in Taitung.
