Taiwan showcases new films at Filmart event
Taiwan's film industry is actively participating in Filmart, showcasing several new projects. The lineup includes feature films such as "Penguin Girl," "That Burning House," and "96 Minutes," as well as the ten-episode series "A Controversial Entertainer." The Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) is leading the showcase, featuring key creative teams and cast. "Penguin Girl" is a fantasy romance directed by first-time filmmaker Yuyu Yang. It stars Charlize Lamb and Hua Chen, who are both present at the event. The film tells the story of a woman studying penguins' marital lives, believing that true love is possible for humans too. International sales are managed by Distribution Workshop. "That Burning House," directed by Tsai Yin-chuan, addresses social issues related to child protection and juvenile crime. The film is currently in post-production and features Fandy Fan and Tseng Jing Hua, who are also attending Filmart to discuss the project. Sales are handled by Hope Content Marketing. Action film "96 Minutes," directed by Hung Tzu-Hsuan, focuses on a bomb crisis on a high-speed train. It is also in post-production, with cast members Lee-Zen Lee, Yi-Ti Yao, and Jacob Wang present at the showcase. International distribution will be handled by Wowing Entertainment Group. The black comedy series "A Controversial Entertainer" is still in pre-production. It depicts the transformation of five men into top TV hosts. Producer-actor Chen I, along with actress Nana Lee and others, will attend the showcase. Two Taiwanese projects are in development for the Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF). Bill Chia presents his debut feature "Indigo Boy," while Edmund Yeo showcases the co-production "The Age Of Goodbyes." HAF selected five international co-productions involving Taiwan for its Works-in-Progress section. Around 90 Taiwanese companies are at Filmart under TAICCA's Taiwan Pavilion, offering various projects. These include drama series, unscripted works like "The King Of Nightmarket," and documentaries such as "Dear Black Sheep," which focuses on cancer awareness.
