Tamil Nadu allocates ₹21,906 crore for health funding
The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, has announced an allocation of ₹21,906 crore to the Health Department for the financial year 2025-26. This was revealed by Tourism Minister R. Rajendran on Saturday. During a ceremony in Omalur Panchayat Union, Rajendran laid the foundation stone for new buildings at the Tholasampatti Primary Health Centre. The construction will cost ₹65.63 lakh. He also inaugurated road construction projects, funded through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), costing ₹64.50 lakh. Rajendran highlighted that Stalin views health and education as his top priorities and has launched various successful initiatives in these sectors. He mentioned that the United Nations has praised some of these programs, such as Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam. The Minister stated that Omalur Panchayat Union has seen projects worth ₹422 crore over the last four years. He noted that 122 beneficiaries have received support under the Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam scheme and that significant road improvements have been made. Rajendran pointed out that other states are adopting Stalin's welfare schemes, including a project to provide laptops for students. He mentioned that the Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme has received recognition from the Canadian government, and England is also looking to implement it. During the event, Rajendran distributed welfare assistance to recipients and visited the Tholasampatti PHC to engage with local residents. District Collector R. Brindha Devi and Salem MP T.M. Selvaganapathi were among those present.
