The Tamil Nadu government has approved ₹1,087 crore to improve infrastructure in over 2,300 village panchayats. This funding is part of the 'Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam – II,' aimed at enhancing basic facilities in rural areas during the 2025-26 period. The scheme, which began in 2006, focuses on various infrastructure projects. These include rejuvenating ponds, upgrading streets and lanes, and installing streetlights. Additionally, it supports livelihood and marketing facilities for local communities. Tamil Nadu has a total of 12,482 village panchayats. For this project, 2,329 panchayats will benefit in the upcoming year. The Block Level Committees will determine the specific projects for each panchayat. Furthermore, all projects selected must gain approval from a Special Grama Sabha. The plan also ensures that at least 30% of the funds are allocated to areas inhabited by Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
