Tamil Nadu officials urged to resolve grievances quickly
The vice-chairperson of the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (TNSCSCST), Imayam alias V. Annamalai, has urged officials to resolve public grievances within a week. He made this statement after a review meeting with department officials at the Salem Collectorate on Thursday. Mr. Annamalai emphasized the Commission's role in protecting the rights of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities. He reviewed the progress of welfare schemes aimed at these groups, including the Iyothee Thass Pandithar Habitation Development Scheme. He noted that these programs were being implemented effectively in Salem district. During the meeting, the officials also examined cases registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, including their status and conviction rates. He instructed officials to address public grievances related to caste discrimination, delays in community certificates, and issues over land provided to SC/ST individuals. Mr. Annamalai also highlighted the need for awareness meetings against child marriage in schools and community gatherings. He announced welfare assistance totaling ₹60.48 lakh for 53 beneficiaries during the meeting. Additionally, he inspected a newly constructed students' hostel at Dr. Ambedkar College, which cost ₹7.65 crore. District Collector R. Brindha Devi, Salem City Police Commissioner Praveen Kumar Abhinapu, and District Superintendent of Police Gautam Goyal were present at the meeting.
