Tamil Nadu presents final supplementary budget estimates

The Tamil Nadu government has presented its final supplementary budget estimates for the fiscal year 2024-25. Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu announced a total of ₹19,287.44 crore in grants during a session in the Assembly on March 21, 2025. The budget includes ₹12,639.36 crore for everyday expenses, ₹6,429.20 crore for capital projects, and ₹218.88 crore for loans. Key allocations in the budget include ₹2,000 crore to support the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation, aimed at improving its infrastructure. Additionally, ₹1,400 crore will fund the construction of new houses under the Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam scheme. The budget also addresses energy costs, allocating ₹1,036 crore for overdue electricity bills owed to power utilities. Furthermore, ₹1,000 crore is set aside for the State Transport Undertakings to buy new buses. The government has earmarked ₹901.84 crore for disaster relief efforts following Cyclone Fengal and heavy monsoon rains in 2024.
