Tamil Nadu to compensate farmers for livestock killed
The Tamil Nadu government has decided to provide compensation to farmers who have lost cattle and poultry due to attacks by street dogs. The announcement was made by Minister for Rural Development I. Periyasamy in the Assembly. Farmers will receive ₹37,500 for each cattle lost, ₹6,000 for sheep or goats, and ₹200 for poultry. The money will come from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund. This decision follows reports of increasing incidents of street dogs killing livestock. To address this issue, the government consulted with district collectors. The total compensation amount for the reported losses will be ₹42.26 lakh, covering 1,149 instances of cattle and poultry deaths across the state.
