Tamil Nadu to introduce Tribal Livelihood Policy for communities

The Tamil Nadu Government plans to create a Tribal Livelihood Policy to improve access to welfare measures for tribal communities and preserve their traditional knowledge. This initiative was announced by Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu during the Budget presentation. The policy will focus on area-specific schemes, starting with Bargur and Kadambur hills in Erode district and Kalvarayan hills in Kallakurichi district. The government has allocated ₹10 crore for this initiative. Additionally, the government has increased funding for entrepreneurship programs for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities. The budget for the Chief Minister’s Adi Dravidar and Tribal Socio-Economic Development Scheme has risen from ₹50 crore to ₹75 crore for 2025-26.
