Tampa homeowners can receive $20,000 disaster relief funds
Homeowners in Tampa, Florida, can now apply for up to $20,000 to repair their homes damaged by Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024. A new $3.2 million relief fund was announced by Mayor Jane Castor to help residents recover from the storms. To qualify for assistance, applicants must own property within the city and have an income that does not exceed 140% of the area's median income, which is about $133,000 for a family of four. The program aims to prioritize lower-income households, with specific allocations for those making 50% or less and 80% or less of the median income. Eligible homeowners can receive different amounts: up to $10,000 for insurance deductibles, $5,000 for mortgage payments, and up to $20,000 for repairs. However, certain groups, including owners of manufactured homes or those with unpaid liens, will not qualify. Residents are urged to apply quickly as funds are limited. Applications are currently being accepted, and officials estimate that approved applicants can expect to receive their funds within about 30 days.
