Tanjong Pagar commemorates Lee Kuan Yew's legacy
In Tanjong Pagar, Members of Parliament held an exhibition to honor Lee Kuan Yew on the eve of his 10th death anniversary. Mr. Lee, Singapore's founding Prime Minister, served as MP for nearly 60 years. At the event, Ms. Indranee Rajah shared how Mr. Lee emphasized the importance of visiting constituents. She expressed that understanding people's lives is crucial for MPs. The exhibition titled "Remembering Lee Kuan Yew – Reflecting and Renewing" showcased his legacy. Mr. Lee was first elected in 1955 when Tanjong Pagar was a single-member constituency. Now, it is a five-member Group Representation Constituency. It will soon include parts from West Coast GRC, and MP Rachel Ong was introduced as a special guest at the event. Minister for Education Chan Chun Sing spoke about Mr. Lee's values, including meritocracy and integrity. He stated that a true tribute to Mr. Lee would be to ensure Singapore continues to thrive. Guests observed a moment of silence at the Lee Kuan Yew Memorial Tree and placed flowers around it. A painting called "Singapore on Canvas" was unveiled, showing Singapore's development. The exhibition also displayed portraits and artifacts related to Mr. Lee's leadership and his connection to constituents. Attendees included former grassroots leaders and residents who shared personal stories of Mr. Lee. They reflected on his impact and legacy, with many expressing pride in their Singaporean identity. Former MP Koo Tsai Kee remarked that although a decade has passed since Mr. Lee's death, the institutions he built are strong, thanks to the current leadership. He urged support for the newer generation of leaders, who Mr. Lee had trusted.
