Tanmay Srivastava to play and umpire in IPL 2025

Tanmay Srivastava is making history in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He will be the first player to both play and umpire in the tournament's history. The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association announced his new role on Tuesday. Tanmay was part of the successful 2008 U19 World Cup team led by Virat Kohli. He played for the Punjab Kings, known as Kings XI Punjab at that time, during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. However, his playing time was limited. He batted only three times and scored a total of eight runs. In addition to the Kings, Tanmay was on the rosters of Deccan Chargers and Kochi Tuskers Kerala but did not get a chance to play for them. He gained recognition for his strong performance in the U19 World Cup, where he scored 262 runs in six matches, averaging 52. Notably, he made 46 runs in the final against South Africa. Tanmay has also had a successful domestic cricket career. He played 90 first-class matches, 44 List A games, and 34 T20 matches for Uttar Pradesh, scoring over 7,000 runs. After retiring in 2020, he began his career as an umpire. He has officiated at several important tournaments, including the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Ranji Trophy.
